Making lemonade out of life's lemons
Last Thursday morning, Maureen and I were just starting our day when the phone rang.
It was Sue calling to tell us that our daughter had been involved in a rear end collision.
She was not the "Hitter" but the "Hitee."
It was around seven thirty and the sun was at just the right heighth in the eastern sky to blind drivers who were not wearing sunglasses.
Kellie was on her way to work, sitting in one of the two turn lanes that put you onto an "ON" ramp for I-75 in northern Kentucky. It is a notorious spot for auto accidents.
Kellie was the fifth car back in the turn lane she was waiting in.
A man in a minivan struck her in the rear and caused her car to strike the rear of the car in front of her.
She says she did not hear the squeal of tires before the impact.
One second she was waiting for the turn light to change...the next second she was reclined in her seat in a prone position wondering what had happened.
The man that had struck her got out of his van, walked up to her car and asked if she was alright.
She told him "NO" ....I don't think I can get out of my car...I can't move...please call 911for an ambulance.
Next a police officer came up to her car and asked for her driver's license, registration and proof of insurance.
She managed to fumble around and provide all that the office had asked for.
He told her that an ambulance was on the way and she shouldn't move any more than necessary.
The officer wrote down all the pertinent information Kellie would need later to file a report with her insurance companyand handed the sheet to Kellie to place in her purse.
The ambulance came, several EMT personel extracated her from her car on a back-board after having placed a cervical collar on her neck and transported her to the nearest hospital.
When we got the call informing us what hospital that turned out to be, we rushed right over to see how she was.
Kellie is one lucky woman. We were told that none of the x-rays revealed any broken bones. It was only bumps, bruises and scrapes. She would be extremely sore, in a lot of pain, have a very stiff neck, ect. but they would give her some powerful drugs for all that.
I'm glad to say that she is home now and slowly recovering.
We took pictures of her car. Thought you might like to see the damage.
