Grumps and grumbles
Pam has already told on me. She said I can be "Grumpy" with my writing sometimes. She was being kind. I'm grumpy in my posts a lot.
I guess that's because there's so much out there for me to grump and grumble about.
I was out walking Jenny this morning. It was pretty cold. As we neared the farthest limits of our normal walking routine, I noticed this young woman coming out of the house across the street. She dashed to her car, jumped in, turned the key and when the car started, she immediately put it in drive and pulled away from the curb. It was only a matter of some 100 feet to the stop sign on the corner.
She stopped.
The engine died.
She tried to restart it.
It refused to start.
I looked at her through the frosty windshield, nodded my head, clicked my tongue and turned to the right, crossing the street and continuing to the next corner where we normally turn around and head for home.
There was nothing I could do to help her get underway again. She had already lost the automatic choke affect by pushing the accelerator down to the floor, something that is a no-no with today's cars.
She was still trying to get it to start when we returned near her, making our turn to the left and returning down our home block. She was on the phone with someone and though I couldn't hear what she was saying, I'd be willing to bet she wasn't blaming herself for her problems.
It what usually happens when anyone gets into a rush.
"Haste makes waste" some wise person in the past said and their words were saved for the rest of us to read and pay heed to if we also would like to be considered wise.
The odds are, if that young woman had gotten in the car, started the engine and allowed it to simply run for one minute, she wouldn't have had the problem she did.
You just don't know how badly I wanted to walk over, motion for her to roll down her window and share that thought with her but I abstained.
I may be grumpy but I'm not stupid. I can only imagine the volley of four letter words coming my way if I had given in to that urge.
I wonder if she ever got it to going again?
Was she late?
I bet she was.
Too bad.
